Welcome to CTO Insights #19! One of my personal resolutions for 2020 was to start a CTOs Community where we can empower and learn from each other. It took me 8 months to make a move and I’m so happy it is finally happening. This week’s favorite - Scaling Cache Infrastructure, Building the GitHub Globe, and more.
Special thanks this week to: Mathew Spolin, Ivan Jordanovski, Katerina Trajchevska, Ivan Katić, and Davor Minchorov for your support for last week’s newsletter - vital to keeping it going for everyone else to read!
Spread love! - Share CTO Insights on Twitter and recommend it to your network if there is anything you enjoyed - it’s the best way to keep the community growing. As this is the last issue for 2020, I want to wish you lots of love, joy, and happiness to you and your families. Keep it safe and have a fantastic holiday season 🌲🎅 Enjoy, Tosho

Long story short - a startup got increased demand and one of its engineers worked on scaling the application to serve more customers. As he ran into a bunch of issues, he started a thread on Reddit and the community jumped in on fixing that - together. I’m amazed by the level of engagement Laravel’s community has, never seen anything similar. If you want to learn more on that don’t miss Adeva’s fireside chat with Taylor. This story was suggested by our CTO Insighter, Davor Minchorov.

How We Built the Github Globe - GitHub
If you are using GitHub, you might have noticed some of the new visuals on their website. With our new homepage, we wanted to show how open source development transcends the borders we’re living in and to tell our product story through the lens of a developer’s journey. There was some buzz for that in the community, especially for the globe animation they came up with. They decided to write a story on how they built such a masterpiece.
